The "Spirit of Bipartisanship"

During the presidential campaign, everyone wondered what style of leadership the Obama administration would bring forth. Well, here is a sample of that leadership: 1: When it comes to a bill that encourages the expenditure of billions of taxpayer dollars, there is no need for discussion; it just needs to be passed. 2: When top level government officials, particularly if they are democrats, do not pay their taxes, it is deemed a mere mistake and there will be no consequences. 3: This one is particularly effective: “I won in November” (read: Nyah-nyah, nyah-nyah, boo-boo). B.O. has said this last one several times; just who is he trying to convince, himself?

Whether or not this spendulus bill succeeds or fails in improving our economy, people will make sure that Sir Spendsalot goes down in history as the greatest man ever to walk the earth. They’re already starting here in our local paper. I asked in a previous post what was going to happen when the masses discovered that Obama was a mere mortal man and not a messiah. a local columnist provided the answer, albeit indirectly: she will blame the republicans for anything he proposes that fails.

Said columnist asserted in her recent piece that Obama pledged to encourage a spirit of bipartisanship, but that the republicans will not cooperate to facilitate such an atmosphere. Pop Quiz: in the “spirit of bipartisanship”, how much republican input was welcomed in the creation of the spendulus bill? Is she suggesting that this bipartisanship be achieved by the minority party keeping their mouths shut and acquiescing to the majority, thus allowing this bill to be passed simply because Obama created it? Well, madam, I don’t believe I care for your brand of bipartisanship, thank you very much!

This mess was created by both parties over the last several years, but it is important to deal with this problem rationally and carefully or the problem will get even worse. I for one, applaud the republicans that stand their ground and stick to the values of the base that managed to put or keep them in office. Perhaps if more of the party had done that before, there might not have been such a slaughter at the polls. I stand behind them as I fervently pray and hope everyday that this country will not dissolve into yawning darkness of the socialist cesspool that looms large before it.
